The name Lithops comes from the Greek words Lithos = stone and Opsis = look, because they look like stones, hence the nickname Living Stones. Lithops come from southern Africa (South Africa and Namibia. They live in conditions of extreme heat and drought. They are not hard to grow but the main problem is usually overwatering. In the winter they should be given little to no water.
